THE IMPORTANCE OF INSTALLING A RCD TESTER YOUR FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE

The Residual Current Device tester or rcd tester is referred to by many definitions but all of them do the same thing. Also called Residual Current Circuit Breaker or RCCB or in some jurisdictions it is referred to as a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter or GFCI. It is also referred to as an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker or ELCB in other parts of the world. All of the above are the first “Line of Defense” if ever there is any short circuit created due to various reasons in an electricity supply line.

It is imperative that the rcd tester is installed at the point of first connection with the outside supply lines and would be an effective deterrent to ensure safety of equipment and above all any human fatalities. We know by experience and through information gathered over the years that electricity could be a very dangerous source of energy. Though we have been using and consuming electricity for many decades, there are still human lives being lost due to negligence and carelessness on the part of many persons.

The rcd tester should be frequently pressed and tested to ensure that it is at its optimum best because when it is required to switch off your power supply from the external source it should come good. If the rcd tester does not break the circuit it could be disastrous and cause untold damage to equipment and if humans are working bring fatalities too. It is important to ensure that you install a brand of rcd tester that has been tried and tested over the years and has a reputation to uphold.

On a scale of one to ten it would be very important to be equated at number one as it is the “First Line of Defense” that any home, office or industrial location would have. Electrical professionals who would install systems at your location wherever it would be will not cut corners nor leave a stone unturned to ensure safety is given top priority. In the electrical supply industry, safety is given importance because many fatal accidents are still occurring.

In our modern world with technology at its best it should never happen, human lives should not be lost but it still happens which would need to be eliminated and zero. It is the prerogative of each and everyone one of us to ensure that we totally comply with all rules and regulations pertaining to safety which is of paramount importance.

The rcd tester is a device that you cannot do without hence ensure that you install the best and nothing less. It would save you and your home, office or organization a lot of headaches and heartaches. The brand and make that you select should be done prudently and not based on cost alone because there are many factors to take into serious consideration.
